A team of Civil Guards specialized in heritage has taken charge of the investigation of the violent assault that took place last week in a house in La Florida, in the municipality of San Bartolomé. According to sources from the Benemérita, the agents of this specialized unit of the Judicial Police report directly to the command of the Civil Guard of Las Palmas. A week after the events occurred, no arrests have yet been made. Meanwhile, the owner of the house is recovering in the hospital from the serious injuries inflicted on him by his attackers and is now "out of danger".
The Civil Guard has indicated that the specialized agents moved to Lanzarote at the moment they learned of "the seriousness" of what happened. According to sources from the police force, this specialized unit is in charge of all types of crimes against heritage, whether they affect real estate, money or other assets. They are collaborating with the troops of the territorial team of the Judicial Police of Costa Teguise, who took over the investigation at first.
Since the assault occurred, few details about the investigation have been released. The Civil Guard barely provides information, insisting that the investigation is "ongoing" and that the agents continue to collect data on what happened. After a week, the perpetrators of the assault and the brutal beating have not yet been arrested and, in fact, it is not known exactly how many people were involved in the events.
The Civil Guard initially reported that agents were looking for a group of between 3 and 6 people, based on the statements of the victims. This Monday they have referred again to that fact. The Benemérita has also stressed that since the day of the event "preventive security measures" have been applied, such as increased surveillance in the ports and airport of the island, or "close collaboration" with the National Police and the rest of the police forces.
The victim, "conscious" and collaborating with the agents
Regarding the owner of the house, who was attacked with extreme violence by the assailants, the mayor of San Bartolomé indicated this Monday that he is "out of danger". María Dolores Corujo, who has stated that she has been "in direct contact with the family from the first minute", has indicated that he is recovering "very well" from his injuries, although his full recovery "will take time".
The strong blows that the aggressors gave to this man, who is a carpenter by profession, caused him fractures in his arm, ribs and even his skull. The seriousness of these injuries made it necessary to transfer him to Gran Canaria to receive medical attention and there he underwent surgery last week.
Although he remains in the intensive care unit, the Civil Guard has confirmed that he is conscious and collaborating with the agents. In fact, they have pointed out that the guards speak with him "whenever necessary". However, it has not transpired what details he has given to the agents.
The brutality of this assault has shocked Lanzarote society. The events took place last Monday, shortly after 8:00 a.m. The partner of the owner of the house arrived at the house after leaving the children at school. At the door she met another woman, who assured her that she belonged to the capital laundering unit of the Civil Guard. Upon entering the house with her, she found her partner, "naked and tied up", and at least two other assailants.
In addition to hitting him violently, the aggressors had stripped him of his clothes and even applied electric shocks to him. The woman was not attacked, but she was tied up. After what happened, she needed psychological attention. According to the victims, at least one of the assailants had a Canarian accent. In addition, they told them that they had been watching them for three months. They fled in the woman's vehicle, which was found hours later in the Argana neighborhood of Arrecife.
