The Local Police of Arrecife arrested this past Wednesday a 53-year-old man against whom there were three search and capture warrants issued in three different Canary Island courts for the commission of the crimes of drug trafficking, fraud and misappropriation.
The man had been fleeing from justice since January 2023, when he escaped from prison while enjoying a prison permit, according to the Canary Police informed Efe this Thursday.
Likewise, the Judicial Assistance Subgroup of the General Corps of the Canary Police communicated this past Tuesday, April 23, to the Local Police of Arrecife to report the search and capture warrants and the arrest of an individual issued by the Justice.
The Canary Police informed the Local Police that they suspected that this individual could reside or be transiting through the city of Arrecife. At the same time, according to the body in a press release, it transferred "details about his physical characteristics, behaviors and habits, which were shared with other security bodies and guilds dedicated to security for rapid identification in case of location".
This past Wednesday, around 7:00 p.m. in the afternoon, agents of the Citizen Attention Operational Group (GOAC) received a communication from the Arrecife Local Police headquarters reporting on "an individual who matched the description provided".
Upon arrival, they visually confirmed that the individual corresponded to the description provided, so they initiated the processes for his identification. During the process, according to the Local Police, "the individual tried to deceive the agents by providing false information to evade justice." However, the agents carried out additional investigations, aware of the possibility that he was lying. Thanks to the resources at their disposal, they managed to confirm the true identity of the individual.
After verifying in the police databases, it was discovered that there were up to three search warrants issued by the Courts of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria against the individual: two of them were for search and entry into prison, one by the Provincial Court for Drug Trafficking, another by the Criminal Court number 6 for Fraud, and another for search and appearance of the Investigating Court 5 for Misappropriation.
To conclude, the statement issued by the Local Police reveals that "this case exemplifies the importance of collaboration between different security forces, such as the General Corps of the Canary Police and the Local Police, in their fight to guarantee the safety and protection of citizens. These two police forces, twinned by the Government of the Canary Islands through the General Directorate of Studies, Training and Research in Public Security, are fundamental for the development of rights and freedoms in the urban environment".
