A rescue helicopter from the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) rescued the body of a 26-year-old shellfish gatherer on Saturday afternoon in the Los Picachos area, within the municipality of Tinajo, in Lanzarote.
At 4:21 p.m., the Local Police of Tinajo informed the Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security (Cecoes) 1-1-2 that a person had gone shellfish gathering in a cliff area and had not returned. From that moment on, 1-1-2 activated the necessary emergency resources, including Civil Protection personnel, the Civil Guard and the Consortium of Security, Emergencies, Rescue, Prevention and Extinction of fires of the island of Lanzarote, in addition to the aforementioned helicopter.
Upon arrival at the scene, Civil Protection personnel located the body of the affected person floating in the sea, but could not access it, because the area was very difficult to access.
The GES helicopter flew over the area and positioned itself over the body, so that a rescuer descended with the crane procedure and secured it. Subsequently, both the deceased and the rescuer were hoisted to the aircraft and went to a nearby esplanade, where the rest of the displaced resources were waiting, awaiting the judicial authority.
The Civil Guard, for its part, instructed the corresponding proceedings and the firefighters collaborated with the rest of the displaced resources.
