A fire truck collided with another car, went off the road due to a drop of about four meters and overturned near Mácher when it was going to a service. The accident occurred on the LZ-2 around 1:15 p.m.
The firefighters had received an alert about the location of a column of smoke and were heading towards Yaiza in a truck. Initially, the manager of the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium, Enrique Espinosa, explained that the firefighters had overtaken, but encountered a car head-on, and when they tried to return to their lane, they no longer had space because there was another car.
However, he later clarified that the driver of the fire truck had tried to overtake a vehicle when it turned left, invading the lane and crossing the solid line.
According to Espinosa, in order to "not cause any damage", the driver of the fire truck made a maneuver to divert "outwards", but ended up hitting the car. The truck lost control, went off the road due to a drop of about four meters and overturned.
From the Canary Islands Government Emergency Coordinating Center, they have indicated that the paramedics of the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) only had to attend to one person, a firefighter, because the rest of those affected did not present injuries. The manager of the Lanzarote Consortium has indicated that the firefighter suffered a blow to the head and went to the Hospital on his own, but is "fine".
