An hour and a half of chaos in air traffic. That is what the owner of a drone caused this Friday, after 8 p.m., by flying over the vicinity of the Gran Canaria airport. Confusion, delays, cancellations, diversions to other islands... The complete closure of the aerodrome, with thousands of passengers waiting on the ground for their plane to take off and, so many others, circling in the air waiting for an order confirming the landing. But this did not arrive until 10 p.m., when the Air Force declared the threat neutralized.
At César Manrique, the closure of the Gran Canaria airport forced the cancellation of two flights.
At the Gran Canaria airport, a large device for tracking the drone (and its owner) made up of the air resources of the Civil Guard and National Police and the Air Force. Along with them, personnel from AENA and Enaire. At 10 p.m. the order was given to resume activity.
There is already an open investigation to find out who is behind that alleged drone that flew in the airport space, an event that carries a fine ranging from 60 euros for minor cases to 225,000 for the most serious. If it was a private individual who piloted the unmanned aircraft, the sanction could be around 90,000 euros.
