The PressReader platform, the largest provider of digital press worldwide, suffered a cyberattack on its servers this Thursday that blocked access to more than 7,000 publications worldwide, preventing access to the digital version of the printed edition of numerous media outlets, including those of Prensa Ibérica, the publishing group to which the Canarian newspaper La Provincia belongs.

“PressReader is experiencing a network outage affecting our site and applications. Ensuring the delivery of content to our readers is our top priority, and every effort is being made to resolve this as quickly as possible,” they communicated from the platform.

As several media outlets publish, the attack occurred days after PressReader removed dozens of Russian newspapers from its catalog, although it cannot be confirmed that the hacking is related to this decision.

“The PressReader site and applications are back up and running. You may notice that the content is not up to date as of today. We are working to remedy this and will provide more details when available,” they have reported from the platform.

PressReader's clients include The New York Times and The Washington Post, as well as the Kiosko y Más platform, which brings together a thousand publications from the main media outlets in Europe.
