A civil guard had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a house fire in Yaiza

The Civil Guard of Yaiza assisted four people in the fire that took place on Monday morning in a house in the municipality, including a pregnant woman. In addition, one of the agents of the Benemérita had to be treated in a medical center for smoke inhalation.

The fire occurred at about 8 o'clock inside a building located in the vicinity of the Benemérita barracks, which was alerted by a relative who visualized the flames from the Civil Guard premises.

Due to the urgency of the case, the agents who were serving in the Citizen Service Area moved to the affected area, finding several people concentrated in this place due to the large cloud of smoke coming out of the block. Immediately, the emergency services (firefighters and health personnel) were alerted from the Civil Guard barracks, while at the same time the acting agents were required by a neighbor, who informed them that on the upper floor there was still a person, in a state of gestation, of which until now they had no news.

The four evacuated people, in good health

Therefore, one of the agents went up to the upper floor with a fire extinguisher that he located in the vicinity of the corridor, making use of it to secure the area with the creation of a "safe corridor", which allowed the evacuation of the affected person, who was treated on site immediately by the health personnel. At the same time, the rest of the occupants of the building were evacuated and security measures were taken in the affected perimeter, consisting of the removal of vehicles and the cordoning off of the area.

As for the pregnant woman, she was treated at the Playa Blanca Health Center, requiring only a first assistance to assess her state of health "without major incidence", according to the Civil Guard, which states that the four people and the three pets evicted were in good health. However, one of its agents also had to be transferred to a medical center in Tías to receive treatment for smoke inhalation, although he has already been discharged.

With regard to the damage to the house, the Benemérita points out that it did not affect the structure of the building. In addition to the Civil Guard, firefighters and health personnel as well as the Local Police of Yaiza and Civil Protection intervened.
