The rapid and effective intervention of the first responders, guided by a coordinating nurse from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) through teleassistance, managed to save the life of a 70-year-old man who suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest at a sports center located in the municipality of Teguise.

This alert was received, a few days ago, at the emergency center and requested health assistance for a man who had fainted while playing paddle tennis.

The call was answered by a coordinating nurse from the SUC who, after conducting the corresponding interrogation, confirmed that the affected person was in cardiorespiratory arrest, making it necessary to initiate cardiac massage.

To do this, he instructed the people at the scene, who had first aid training, to begin basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers, while one of them located the semi-automatic defibrillator that the sports facility had.

The first responders followed the instructions provided by the SUC health coordinator, performing cardiac massage and applying the heart-saving device to the affected person, successfully delivering a shock.

The personnel of the SUC medicalized ambulance, which had been activated from the first moment by the nurse from the coordinating center, verified upon arrival that the athlete had recovered his pulse, so they proceeded to stabilize him for later transfer to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital.
