The Salvamar Al Nair rescued around 12:37 p.m. this Friday 40 Maghrebi people, 37 men, two women and a minor, from an inflatable boat that was located by a merchant ship in waters near Lanzarote, as reported to EFE by sources from Maritime Rescue.
The event occurred in international waters 22 nautical miles southeast of the island of Lanzarote.
The immigrants are being transferred to the Commercial dock, in Arrecife, where they are expected to arrive at 1:40 p.m. (Canarian time). The rescue has been coordinated from the Maritime Rescue Center of Las Palmas.
In addition, during the past night, 149 people of sub-Saharan and Maghrebi origin were rescued, including a minor, who were trying to reach the coasts of Lanzarote and Gran Canaria in three boats.
With this, there are already three boats rescued in just 24 hours, totaling 148 people rescued in Lanzarote.
