The Yaiza Coral Encounter annually represents the joyful musical welcome to the Christmas season in the south of Lanzarote, and of course, it was so again in 2025 with three vocal groups from the Island: the choirs El Cribo Canta and In Dulci Jubilo, directed by Arnold Bonilla and Marianne Whelpdale, respectively, and the host Agrupación Vocal de Yaiza, under the baton of Nuvi Tavío, who not only organizes this and other vocal encounters like the one for the Los Remedios festivities, with the support of the Yaiza City Council and Parish, but is also responsible for and promotes vocal training in the municipality.
The performance of Christmas carols and other popular songs by the choirs, which took place last Friday in the Yaiza church before the Nativity scene's inauguration, was joined by the Rancho de Pascua de Yaiza, another musical institution deeply rooted in the southern community with a long history of enlivening celebrations. The Rancho was then responsible for escorting the public to the Nativity scene's surroundings.
The attendance filled the church and enjoyed a beautiful and heartwarming cultural evening on a stage blessed by its excellent acoustics. "The Coral Encounter is an event that mixes art and tradition, that transports us to childhood and imbues us with the Christmas spirit, filling us with joy for our coexistence in society. Experiences and emotions that music has the virtue of interpreting," notes the Yaiza Councilor for Culture, César Rijo.
The Yaiza City Council thanks the choirs El Cribo Canta and In Dulci Jubilo, the Yaiza Vocal Group, and the Yaiza Easter Ranch for their good work and willingness to participate in a night of praise to music.
