The parish of Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Valterra celebrated this Wednesday in style the festivity of 'Santa Cecilia, Patron Saint of Music'. With a Eucharist that began at 6:00 p.m., and was presided over by the parish priest Nicanor Bermúdez and enlivened on the piano by Professor Pepe Artiles, together with the voices of the soloists Beni Ferrer and Juana María Bello, who were also supported by the parishioners.
A homily dedicated to Santa Cecilia, based on the life of this noble Roman woman converted to Christianity and martyred for the faith, who for the Catholic Church, is the patron saint of music and poets. Once the Eucharist was over, a well-deserved recognition was given to the singing and piano teacher Josefina González, who brought and educated so many people from Lanzarote in melodies and songs, in addition to being the founder of the 'Atacayte Youth Choir' and director of the 'Villa de Teguise' and 'Vulcania' choirs. Also for many years she has collaborated with the parishes of San Ginés and Valterra, enlivening the songs with the piano.
The "simple and emotional" recognition began with the performance of the boys and girls who are preparing for their First Communion and had the collaboration of their parents and catechists, who all together performed the song 'Raise Your Hands'. Next, there was a representation of choir members from 'Atacayte', in which they performed 'Canticorum Lubilo'.
Immediately afterwards, 'Ciro Corujo', accompanied on guitar by his friend Salvador Pérez, also wanted to be present in the recognition of his teacher by performing the song 'Sin un Amor'. And on the occasion of the festivity, the concert was carried out by the students of the 'Insular Music Center of Lanzarote', a school that currently welcomes hundreds of young people from Lanzarote in elementary and professional training in various modalities.
First of all, the 'Beginner String Orchestra', it was the first time that it performed outside the study center, directed by Professor Laura Hernández González, they performed masterpieces by Doug Spata, José Brito, K. Fishburn and Deborah Baker. In addition, the piano teacher Javier Díaz, accompanied the soprano Loreto Fernández and the tenors Ayose Barreto, David Luzón and Jesús Godoy, who performed works by Mozart, Rssini, Donizetti and J. Rodrigo.
Ending the concert with the performance of the 'Advanced String Orchestra' directed by Professor José Manuel Hernández Alfaro, in which they performed compositions by J.S. Bach, Haendel and Caccini. The festivity of 'Santa Cecilia' ended with the participation of the parishioners encouraged by the parish priest who performed the well-known song by the singer Roberto Carlos 'Un Millón de Amigos'
