The town of Uga celebrated this Saturday its pilgrimage offering to San Isidro Labrador, gathering dozens of neighbors and visitors around the Patron Saint in a joyful tour through the streets of the town, which was visibly decorated by the good work of a dozen touch and dance groups from Lanzarote, the invited Agrupación Folklórica Noreste Guiense from Gran Canaria, spontaneous revelers who did not stop singing, animal-drawn carts carefully decorated by pilgrims, and the ever-present figure of the camel, in a town that has the most important camel herd in Europe and where the livelihood of about forty families depends on tourist rides on camels in Timanfaya.
Encouraged by the respect and adoration of the Saint and the feeling of love for the town, very well expressed in the proclamation offered on Friday by former members of the Rondalla San Isidro Labrador, Uga took to the streets to give and spread joy to locals and strangers alike, and to thank for health and work by offering folklore, fruits of the land, non-perishable food, and personal hygiene products that young and old delivered at the foot of the Patron Saint, in front of the church, in the final stretch of the pilgrimage.
The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, the councilor for Festivities, Javier Camacho, councilors of the Municipal Corporation, and the parish priest of Yaiza, Jonathan Almeida, thanked the manifest solidarity of pilgrims who made these donations destined for distribution among vulnerable families. The proclaiming rondalla recalled Uga's trajectory in the primary sector, and in the offerings of pilgrims, the close relationship of the town with the countryside could be seen.
The pilgrimage stood out for the participation of people of all ages and from different municipalities of Lanzarote. By groups, the joy and vitality of the elders of Yaiza was admirable, always present in all the patron saint festivities of the municipality in the company of the municipal monitors.
The Yaiza City Council also praises the commitment of the residents of Uga, the presence of a representation of the Order of the Canarian Puppy, and the performances of the participating parrandas and folklore groups: Los Buches, Los Labradores, Son del Norte, La Peña, Rubicón, Gaida, Janubio, Guágaro, Noreste Guiense, Timbayba, and the host and proclaiming Rondalla San Isidro Labrador.
The mayor, Óscar Noda, also thanks the involvement of the town's festival committee, the work of the staff of the Yaiza Festivities Area, and the performance of the Local Police, Civil Protection Yaiza, Red Cross, and all the security and emergency bodies that provide preventive services during the period of celebrations.
