This Thursday night, the proclamation reading took place, which kicked off the festivities in honor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in the town of Tiagua. The act was carried out in the Socio-Cultural Center "El Molino de Tiagua".
For this edition, it had luxury announcers, a representation of the oldest residents of the town with ages between 86 and 94 years old, this being the first time since in past editions there had always been much younger residents, a decision carried out by the current festival commission falling on the residents: Juan Martín, Andrés Guillen, Marcial Parrilla and Antonio de León.
Each of them was given a prior interview where each one, with great ease and the occasional joke, told how the parties they had to live through were, making it clear that they have nothing to do with the current ones because in those times with so little they were much happier and had much more fun. They emphasized that the two festivals that were held were very famous, where many people from the neighboring towns of Tao, Soo, Tinajo and some others came.
They also remembered when they toured the town forming a parranda and visiting the neighbors house by house where there was never a lack of a glass of anise or homemade wine with some pejín or torrija. The announcers emphasized that in those times the neighbors saw each other much more to play a game of cards or playing ball after a short break in the field work, remembering the day they decided to form a commission to build the Teleclub and thus be able to have where to meet more often.
With great enthusiasm, everyone pitched in and got to work, one in the role of bricklayer, another of carpenter or painter. Raising money among everyone to buy the materials, work that they did on weekends, achieving their goal. Currently it is not operational because now everything is done in the one that years later was made by the City Council of Teguise.
The four announcers gave a good lesson to the current generations because they, with hardly anything, based on many sacrifices, came forward and enjoyed the few moments they had free. The neighbors who gathered at the Socio-Cultural Center enjoyed listening to the experiences and anecdotes of each of the announcers currently tanned by the passage of time. Olivia Duque Mayor of the City Council of Teguise and corporation colleagues joined family and neighbors on a very special day for them, ending the act with the delivery of commemorative plaques and gifts.
The big day of the festivities dedicated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help will be next Monday the 9th with the celebration of Holy Mass and procession at 6:00 p.m. and the musical offering of the Parranda El Lagar of Teseguite and the Altaja Cultural Association.
