Last Friday night, the family of the Rubicón de Yaiza Folk Group celebrated its festival on the occasion of the festivities in honor of Our Lady of Los Remedios. The event took place in the Plaza de Los Remedios, which was completely filled with an audience that loves the Canarian traditions, manifested through traditional songs and dances.
Since its inception, the Rubicón Folk Group has designed a dynamic and innovative format for its annual festival, managing to keep the public attentive to every movement of its 49 members, divided into the touch and dance bodies. In this edition, the musical base was interpreted in its entirety by the touch body, directed by Professor Roberto Gil. As for the dance, the integration of numerous young people stood out, which has allowed a large staff and the replacement of the components in each programmed piece. The dance body is under the direction of Professor Magdalena Cáceres, who takes care of every detail of the clothing and choreography.
Rubicón for Friday night had two young soloists as guests, singers with powerful records with which they conquered the large audience that did not stop applauding them in each of their performances. Desiré Hernández, young woman from Lanzarote, member of the Guagime de Tahíche Folk Group, who started in folklore as a child at the Municipal School of Folklore of Teguise and currently, not only participates singing but is also responsible for directing the dance body of said group.
The other guest of the night was the young Mateo Felipe from Icod El Alto, Los Realejos in Tenerife who, despite his youth, has a long career always linked to traditional Canarian music and dances. He is currently a member and director of the group 'Los Trigales'. Mateo was born into a family musically rooted in traditions that has collaborated with several groups such as Taburiente, Mestisay, Los Gofiones Sabinosa, Tigaray etc.
Together with Desiré Hernández and Mateo Felite, the magnificent voices of the Rubicón soloists also joined, achieving among all the objectives set, leaving the bar very high.
Finally, it should be noted that the festival began with the instrumental chords of timple and guitar as accompaniment to the reading of an emotional poem composed by César Rijo Eugenio, member of Rubicón who received the applause of the public as a prize. With the delivery of gifts and to the rhythm of an Isa Parrandera, the final touch was put.
