The municipality of Yaiza launched a message of unity on Canary Islands Day, and it did so by defending the culture and popular expressions of the Archipelago, also showing itself proud of the diversity and multiculturalism of a municipality that is and feels like everyone's land. This was expressed by the mayor, Óscar Noda, who highlighted in the institutional act of this May 30 in the Plaza de Remedios the feeling of Canarian identity of Yaiza and its hospitable spirit: "we do not forget our roots, we exalt the cultural richness of the Canary Islands and we learn from the culture of other sister peoples".
One more year, Yaiza enshrined with a variety of activities folklore, its culture and heritage, of which its gastronomy and native sports are part. In the Plaza de Remedios and its surroundings there were presentations by groups of touch and dance, with the Rubicón Folklore Group of Yaiza leading the performances. The opening of the day was carried out by the Municipal Band of Yaiza directed by Giovanni Noda Niz.
The mayor recalled his time in Rubicón and was encouraged to dance with those he still considers his colleagues. There was also no shortage of Canarian sancocho, homemade sweets, handicrafts and even children's workshops on making green and red mojo.
Canarian wrestling was very present on May 30 on a terrero set up for the occasion with a fight between two combined teams from Lanzarote's only women's club, Tinecheide, which invited several wrestlers from Yaiza to participate. This fight brought together the sports family of the Island who experienced a spectacular day in Yaiza.
The Councilor for Festivities of Yaiza, Daniel Medina, declares that "we celebrate Canary Islands Day with a wide program of activities and without forgetting the primary sector, with goat milking workshops and the camel sector. We give a prominent space to sports with Canarian wrestling and Canarian ball with the help of our colleague Councilor for Sports, Ángel Lago, and to finish during the afternoon we had performances by different parrandas from the Island".
The square became a meeting point for music, enyesque and fraternization, enjoyed by neighbors and tourists. The mayor thanks the participation, the work of the municipal staff of different areas and the services of the Local Police, Civil Protection and emergency bodies that ensured the tranquility of the town.
