The festivities of Nuestra Señora del Carmen de Teguise, marked this year by the 600 years of history of La Villa, kicked off this Thursday with the proclamation of the cultural associations of the municipality.

The Culture Department of the City Council, managed by the Councilor Olivia Duque, decided to invite each of the associations to be part of the proclamation in such an important year for Teguise, since each of them has been contributing with their work, enthusiasm and dedication to write the pages of the manuscript where the 600 years of history are collected.

The proclamation began at 8:30 p.m. in the Santo Domingo Convent and was presided over by the mayor of the municipality, Oswaldo Betancort, the Councilor for Culture, Olivia Duque, and the official chronicler of Teguise, Francisco Hernández.

Fourteen associations participated in the proclamation

A total of 14 associations participated in the proclamation, starting with Los Diabletes, one of the oldest cultural associations in the Canary Islands. They were followed by the Rancho de Animas or Pascuas, folk singing and dancing groups, the Teguise Polyphonic Choir, the Music Band, and popular music, theater and parrandas groups.

Each of their representatives told the audience present about their involvement in each of their sections, all of them very happy to belong to the great family of cultural associations of the municipality, which with great responsibility represent Teguise wherever they are invited,

The Councilor for Culture, Olivia Duque, explained that for such an important event it was necessary to change the usual format to proclaim the festivities of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, opting to invite the cultural associations of the municipality so that each one would be reflected in the pages that are currently being written.

Once each of the associations had finished their speeches, the performance of the Coral Polifónica Villa de Teguise, directed by Professor Nuvi Tavío, took place, offering a select repertoire. The choir had the collaboration of the pianist Yasuyo Tsuchiya in the first part and received as a reward the warm applause of the public, putting an end to a new page that will be part of the 600 years of history of Teguise.
