To mark the 60th anniversary of the launch of the first desalination plant on the island, the Order of the Canarian Puppy in Lanzarote has programmed commemorative days under the generic title The water that was not there. The days include two talks, which will take place in the hall of the Lancelot Playa Hotel in Arrecife.

The first day will be given by Jesús Manuel Cáceres Rodríguez with the talk Water, the reality of Lanzarote and its past, on Tuesday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m., at the Lancelot Playa Hotel in Arrecife.

The author will take a tour of the culture of water on the island until the installation of the first desalination plant. It will begin with the pre-European world, the adaptation to the medieval and modern age, and, finally, the difficulties in the 18th, 19th and first half of the 20th centuries.

Jesús Manuel Cáceres Rodríguez has a degree in History and specialized in archeology from the University of Granada, a master's degree in Cultural Heritage Management from the University of Valencia. His recurring themes are water management and the cultural landscape of dry stone. In the world of archeology, his field of study is historical archeology.
