The Memory of Thursdays conference cycle, organized by the Data Center of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, celebrates this week the second of the conferences included in its 2025 edition. This is the round table Memory of La Graciosa, which will take place this Thursday, January 30, at 7:00 p.m., in the José Saramago Room of the César Manrique Foundation, in La Plazuela de Arrecife.
Memory of La Graciosa will address the history of the eighth island with a meeting in the form of a debate in which the past of La Graciosa and the historical audiovisual material linked to that past will be discussed. And it will be done through the presentation of two projects promoted by a group of residents of the island and in which the Cabildo of Lanzarote has participated through the Digital Memory of Lanzarote, a department that depends on the councilor Ascensión Toledo.
These two projects are the Digital Memory of La Graciosa website and a permanent exhibition on the history of the island that will be inaugurated in the coming weeks and will be located in the Inocencia Páez Sociocultural Center of Caleta del Sebo. The City Council of Teguise is also collaborating in the exhibition.
This round table promoted by the Area directed by the councilor Ascensión Toledo will be moderated by the historian and expert in historical photography Mario Ferrer. It explores the creation process of this project. Beyond the citizen initiative, this talk invites us to discover the stories of La Graciosa through those who know it best: its residents. It will feature the participation of Sasá Toledo, Elza Wagner, Rafa Hernández and Bárbara Müller, who will share their perspective on the past, present and future of the island.
Memory of La Graciosa is an invitation to connect with the soul of the island and its community, an exceptional opportunity to reflect on the value of preserving our history and look to the future with pride and responsibility.
Mario Ferrer Peñate holds a doctorate and a degree in Journalism and Art History. He has worked for more than fifteen years in the field of historical photography and coordinated the Digital Memory of Lanzarote. He is the author of numerous articles for specialized meetings and has curated various exhibitions. He is the founder and director of Ediciones Remotas and author of the book La fotografía en Lanzarote 1850-1950. And since 2024 he has been a professor at the Faculty of Political, Social and Communication Sciences of the University of La Laguna.
The round table Memory of La Graciosa will take place this Thursday, January 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the José Saramago Room of the César Manrique Foundation, in La Plazuela de Arrecife. Admission is free until full capacity is reached.
