The Lanzarote orchestra Mambo Latino will perform on February 4 at the Verbenazo 7 Islas, which will be held in the Plaza de La Oliva in Fuerteventura between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. "We have been lucky enough to be chosen from among the orchestras in Lanzarote," says the director of Mambo Latino, Tony López.
Mambo Latino is made up of 2 women and 8 men. "Three winds, bass, piano, two percussionists and two singers. And our sound technician," says López. "We got together in May of last year and the truth is that it has gone and is going quite well for us. The musicians there have been in other orchestras for many years," he adds.
"This project was born from my little head and David Luzardo's, one of the percussionists. We talked about it and started looking for several colleagues. And it seems that people like what we do and our repertoire of bachata, merengue, cumbia, etc.," explains the director.
As the members of the orchestra have a high level of musical training, the director explains that they only get together to rehearse twice a month. "Yes, in specific cases, like now, we rehearse once a week. Once you have a repertoire set up, you don't need to rehearse it constantly, unless you are going to set up a new theme," says López.
When asked about the orchestra's aspiration, López says that "having a good time" is his main objective. "And that people have a good time with us. If they like the work that the group does, that says it all," he concludes.
