The Titerroy Neighborhood Association has announced that the rock group Kardomillo will be in charge of giving the opening speech of the Patron Saint Festivities in honor of San José Obrero, which will be held from Friday, April 25 to Thursday, May 1.
Kardomillo is one of the most emblematic and long-lived musical groups in Lanzarote. Founded in 1992 in the Titerroy neighborhood, the group took to the stage for the first time in 1996 and is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary. Throughout its career, it has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Miguel Ríos, La Mosca, Mojinos Escocidos, Siniestro Total, Antonio Orozco, Guaraná, Amistades Peligrosas, Arístides Moreno, Las Ratas, Narco, Sexy Sadie and La Polla Records, among many others.
Kardomillo's beginnings were marked by a strong influence from punk, inspired by bands such as La Polla Records and Kortatu. Over time, they have evolved in the island's music scene, establishing themselves as a rock reference in Lanzarote.
The Titerroy Neighborhood Association has highlighted the importance of paying tribute to a band that has represented the musical identity of the neighborhood for decades. "When they told us that they had thought of us to be the heralds of the neighborhood festivities, we felt great pride. Being recognized by our people is a greater feeling than any concert. To meet our people again, in the streets where we lived so many moments, is a gift that we will take with us forever," the group said in a statement.
Return Home: Kardomillo and the Heartbeat of Titerroy
"Titerroy is not just a neighborhood, it is the corner where memories take the form of streets, of corners full of laughter and voices that time has not managed to extinguish," the association said in a statement. "Here, between facades that have witnessed its history, Kardomillo was born," he continued. "Not on a stage, but in the courtyards where the first guitars were out of tune with dreams, in the garages where the first chords tried to tear the silence of the night, in the parks where music mixed with the daily life of the neighborhood," he added.
Now, three decades later, time folds in on itself to return them to the starting point. "Returning to Titerroy is returning home. It is not just a concert, it is a reunion with the roots, with the faces that were once part of their youth and with those corners that still hold their essence," he stressed. It is a tribute to those who saw them grow, to those who encouraged them from day one and to those who, with each chord, continue to feel the strength of their music as part of their own history.
When the lights come on and the first chord resonates in Titerroy, it will not only be the sound of Kardomillo. It will be the echo of a life, the heartbeat of a neighborhood that saw them born and that, this time, welcomes them with open arms.
The neighborhood group hopes that a meeting can be held shortly with the Department of Festivities to advance in the configuration of the program of events to be held in the neighborhood. The Titerroy Neighborhood Association would like to express its gratitude to the Arrecife City Council for its willingness and collaboration in this process, as well as for its continued support of citizen initiatives. It should be noted that the necessary documentation for the organization of the festivities was sent to the council last December, and we trust that, thanks to the joint work, the festivities in Honor of San José Obrero, reflect the spirit of our neighborhood.
