The José Saramago House Museum will remember the Nobel Prize winner this Thursday. Coinciding with the fifth anniversary of the writer's death, the doors of the José Saramago Library, in Tías, will remain open all morning.

The tribute event will last 4 hours, within the normal opening hours of the library, and will "especially focus on Saramago's work and ethos as a man and writer." Thus, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., videos will be shown with readings in several voices and songs by Luis Pastor and Esperanza Fernández on Saramago's musicalized poems.

At noon, a brief press conference will be held in which the directors of A Casa, María del Río and Javier Pérez, will speak about the continuation of José Saramago's human and literary legacy in Lanzarote. Subsequently, until 2 p.m., there will be a continuous open reading, based mainly on poems and texts from 'The Intermittences of Death and Lanzarote Notebooks'. Although this is the chosen theme, the House Museum emphasizes that "anyone can read what they deem appropriate within the different Saramaguian themes and references."

Throughout the event, which the foundation that bears his name has titled "We are all Saramago", visitors and participants will be able to leave their testimony and memory of the writer in the guest book.

The PSOE will make a floral offering

For its part, the Socialist Party of Lanzarote will also join the tribute events with a floral offering, which will be held at the sculpture on the roundabout next to the Saramago Foundation at 11.30 a.m.

The general secretary of the PSOE on the island, Dolores Corujo, together with several members of her island Executive and public and organic officials of the party, will be in charge of depositing the flowers. "In this way, the socialists will honor the memory of the Nobel Prize for Literature, who took up residence in Lanzarote in the last years of his life, linking the name of the island to his person and his work," the party explains.

"The relationship of a person of the human and literary stature of Saramago with Lanzarote has presented us and presents us to the world as a special territory, as it was chosen by the writer to transfer his incredible mental universe to paper and to tell stories that move us and make us reflect on our place in the world and the consequences of our actions," said Dolores Corujo.
