As every August 5th, many pilgrims from different parts of the island head to the Mountain of Teguise, some walking, some on horseback or donkey, and others by car to meet Our Lady of Las Nieves, some to thank her, others to ask for something as basic as health and above all for family unity.
As the first lights of dawn appeared, the door of the Sanctuary opened, which this Saturday dawned shrouded in the fresh mist that rose from the cliff of Risco de Famara. At 8 and 10 o'clock the masses called pilgrims' masses were celebrated, where the stragglers had to follow from outside because the capacity was completely full.
At 12 noon, the Solemn Eucharist was celebrated in honor of Our Lady of Las Nieves, presided over by Juan Carlos Medina Medina, parish priest of San Ginés, Episcopal Vicar of Fuerteventura, La Graciosa and Lanzarote, who was assisted by Juan Manuel Molina, parish priest of Teguise, Rafael Tejera, parish priest of Tiagua and Francisco Javier Sánchez González attached to the parish of Nuestra Señora de Belén in Fuenlabrada Madrid. The songs for this celebration were enlivened by the Parish Choir of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de Teguise.
After the Eucharist, the image of Las Nieves was transferred to the portico of the Sanctuary where it was received with the protocol honors by the Teguiband Music Band of Teguise, which performed some processional march compositions that were applauded by the numerous public concentrated in front of the door of the Sanctuary.
The parish priest of Teguise, Juan Manuel Molina, thanked the presence of each and every one of the pilgrims who had traveled to the mountain to participate in the Eucharists celebrated throughout the morning and officially announced the suspension of the procession due to the strong prevailing wind. With prolonged applause and cheers, the image of Las Nieves returned to the interior of its Sanctuary.
Throughout the day pilgrims continued to arrive and at 18:30 the last Eucharist of the day was celebrated, which was offered for deceased faithful devotees of the Virgen de Las Nieves.
