The San Ginés Festivals experienced on Friday night, after the opening speech given by the Lanzarotean fighter and athlete Hécher Sosa, a great international meeting of cultures at the hands of the International Festival of Performing Arts The World in Lanzarote, which celebrates its third edition this year under the slogan “Culture that Unites Us”.
The event, held in José Ramírez Cerdá Park, brought together on stage four groups that represent different cultural and artistic expressions from Lanzarote, Europe, and Latin America: the Parrandera Marinera de Buches, as the host group and one of the most representative expressions of Arrecife's cultural tradition; Dance Ensemble Racziborzania, from Poland; Paraguay Rekove, from Paraguay; and Raíces del Tecnológico de Monterrey, from Mexico.
The evening began with the performance of the Parrandera Marinera de Buches, which gave way to an international tour of different artistic manifestations from Poland, Paraguay, and Mexico. In this way, the public was able to approach other cultures through music and dance, in a proposal that connects directly with the slogan of this third edition of the festival.
The meeting reflects one of the main objectives of The World in Lanzarote: to use performing arts as a tool for meeting, dialogue, and exchange between cultures, bringing artistic expressions from different parts of the world closer to the citizens of Lanzarote.
The proposal is also part of the philosophy of the third edition of the festival, which places special emphasis on community participation, interculturality, and the creation of meeting spaces between artists, residents, and visitors.
The deputy mayor and councilor for Festivals of the Arrecife City Council, Echedey Eugenio, has highlighted that “the San Ginés Festivals are a celebration deeply linked to our identity, but we also want them to be festivals open to the world, to encounters, and to coexistence between cultures. The proposal of The World in Lanzarote allows us to enjoy different traditions and artistic expressions and to turn Arrecife into a meeting point between territories and people”.
For her part, the Councilor for Culture of the capital's City Council, Abigail González, has emphasized that “it is a satisfaction that a project like El Mundo en Lanzarote has wanted to be part of the opening night of San Ginés. Culture knows no borders and this meeting is a magnificent example of how our festivals can also serve to share, learn about and value other traditions”.
A consolidated initiative of cultural exchange
El Mundo en Lanzarote is an initiative of the Cultural and Sports Association Acciones Unidas that promotes interculturality, citizen participation, and international artistic exchange through dance, music, theater, circus, and other performing arts manifestations.
After its previous editions, the festival continues to consolidate itself as an international space for artistic and cultural exchange on the island. The 2026 edition brings together international companies, local groups, and different performing arts proposals, reinforcing the presence of international culture in different spaces and municipalities of Lanzarote.
El Mundo en Lanzarote and Acciones Unidas especially thanked the collaboration of the Arrecife City Council, especially the departments of Festivals and Culture, as well as the institutions and entities that make the celebration of the San Ginés Festivals and the development of this cultural initiative possible.
The closing of the Festival will take place this Sunday, August 16, and will begin with a parade that will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Puente de las Bolas and will travel along the Avenue to reach the José Ramírez Cerdá Park where the participating groups in this third edition will take to the stage again starting at 8:00 p.m. and will once again offer a full cultural spectacle.
