The senior theater group of the municipality of Yaiza premiered this Thursday the play Ya nos invitaron al zaguán, as part of the commemorative events of the Canary Islands Day in the south of Lanzarote, this being an unexpected function of the fourth cycle of theater workshops promoted by the City Council, through the Area of Social Dynamization and Attention to the Elderly, in its program of activities aimed at elderly residents.

With the interpretation of this new play, the elderly of Yaiza demonstrated their progress in the art of acting with the help of the director Nisamar Montelongo, an artist who teaches the workshops and also the creator and screenwriter of Ya nos invitaron al zaguán.

The story narrates the relationship between neighbors of a town, including the picaresque, and the arrival of a tourist to whom the locals explain in their own way three Canarian legends: the legend of Princess Ico, the devil of Timanfaya and the Olivina. The visitor ends up integrating, spending hilarious moments with the town that welcomes her.

In this workshop, the elderly worked in its first part on aspects related to vocalization, improvisation, non-verbal language and movements, reinforcing what they learned in previous workshops, and then dedicating time to reading, understanding of the play, choosing characters and rehearsals.

Este crucero es un lío, El choso de Bernarda Alba or El sueño de una noche de verano, are plays that have been performed by the elderly and enjoyed by the public of Yaiza, who this Thursday once again surrendered to their good work.

“In Yaiza we maintain our commitment to the performing arts and incorporate new activities into the care program for our elderly, who participate delighted in recreational, sports, educational and artistic proposals”, notes the Councilor for Social Dynamization, Águeda Cedrés.
