The Mararía Social and Cultural Association for Women announces the fifth edition of the Elisa Bentancort Delgado Drawing and Painting Contest, a tribute to the remembered Lanzarote painter who marked the 90s with her style full of emotional force. The deadline for submitting works is January 27, and both professional creators and amateurs who wish to show their talent are encouraged to participate.

In line with Mararía's values, the contest proposes reflection on social and current issues such as mental health, gender identity, feminism, roots, the relationship with nature and collective memory. However, the theme and technique are free, so that each artist can express themselves with complete freedom.

The works must be drawing, painting or any pictorial or graphic technique as well as mixed techniques such as collages, etc. and may have a maximum size of 100 x 75 cm, without minimum measurements. It is an essential requirement that they are framed or prepared to hang, in order to facilitate their exhibition.

This contest is financed by the Department of Culture of the Arrecife City Council, directed by Abigail González, and is curated by the artist Lana Corujo. The organization is in charge of Mararía, chaired by the historical activist Nieves Rosa Hernández, a great reference in the defense of women's rights in Lanzarote.

One of the great incentives to participate is that the finalist works will be exhibited in February at the Agustín de La Hoz House of Culture, a prominent place in the cultural life of Arrecife. In addition, two guided tours will be held so that citizens can learn more about these creations and the work of each artist.

There will be three cash prizes for those selected by the jury:
First prize: €800
Second prize: €500
Third prize: €300

This contest pays tribute to Elisa Bentancort Delgado, a key figure in painting in Lanzarote, whose work reflected an intense connection with emotions and human psychology. Throughout its editions, it has highlighted the talent of various artists: in 2024, Lía Gutiérrez Luzardo won the highest award for her work Synergy; in 2017 and 2015, Rosalía Die Lorenzo was awarded for The Truth and Woman on the road, respectively; and in 2016, the award went to Rafael Segura Calzada.

Those who wish to participate can consult the rules on the Mararía website. "This event is a unique opportunity to demonstrate creativity and personal vision about the reality that surrounds us, contributing to enriching the cultural scene of Lanzarote," they conclude from the organization.
