The Pieles company presents in Lanzarote the new version of its acclaimed show Ángaro, which fuses tradition and avant-garde through melody, song and percussion. A show that can be enjoyed next Thursday, January 25 at Jameos del Agua. It will do so on a tour that includes stages on seven islands, within the En Paralelo program of the 40th Canary Islands Music Festival, specifically, with its performance

It will begin this Wednesday the 24th in Fuerteventura and will then travel, until February 7th, to Lanzarote, La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera, Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

The artistic director of the company, Jonatán Rodríguez, indicates that this version of Ángaro represents "a renewed scenic proposal that has a novel lighting design to which all the artists of 'Pieles' are added, including José Félix Álvarez and Fernanda Alonso, who, being part of the company, had not participated in this show. Their inclusion in Ángaro gives rise to new sounds and nuances derived from primitive sounds of our islands, as well as a new scenic form".

It also incorporates instruments that come from other popular musics from different parts of the world, adding to a show that, as is usual in the proposals of 'Pieles', is inspired by the folklore of the islands, but with a more global and avant-garde vision, with popular sounds in the broadest sense. It can be seen this Wednesday, January 24 at the Palacio de Formación y Congresos de Fuerteventura, and on Saturday the 27th at the Teatro Circo de Marte, in La Palma. The tour will continue on Monday the 29th at the Asabanos Cultural Center, in El Hierro; and on Thursday, February 1st at the Insular Auditorium of La Gomera. The tour will end on the weekend at the Teatro Guimerá in Tenerife (Tuesday 6) and at the Teatro Pérez Galdós in Gran Canaria (Wednesday, February 7).

Sense of belonging

Ángaro speaks of the sense of belonging as a common bond between all peoples. With this work, Pieles proposes a twinning between the five continents through popular music, since from an ethnographic point of view they reflect each cultural legacy. Musical folklore has the ability to travel both in time and space, so it contains a common knowledge and spills it around the world. It is only a matter of time before we end up becoming impregnated with everything.

This interdisciplinary artistic project combines sound and word. The sound and timbre sequence is developed taking into account the intact and ancestral musical germ that later reverted to a global folklore. In this way, a bridge is built to the original rhythm with the intention of recognizing the artistic-cultural content of the Canary Islands and the rest of the world, and its evolution to the present day.

Ángaro is born from a feeling of global belonging, so it is interested in the universal cultural heritage and promotes the rapprochement between different cultures. To this end, songs, rhythms, words, dances, images and popular knowledge are intertwined through old and new creation tools.
