The Councilor of the Centers for Art, Culture and Tourism, Ángel Vázquez, has already signed the contract with the company Pavimiquia SL to start "as soon as possible" the work for the restoration of the Sculpture of Fertility, in the Casa-Museo del Campesino.
With a budget of 79,798.90 euros, the intervention contemplates the execution of the integral recovery of the pieces that make up the sculpture erected by César Manrique on the Peña de Tajaste and the adjacent garden areas within a maximum period of 4 months. During this period, access to the sculpture will be prohibited to the public.
Vázquez wanted to highlight "the quality and sensitivity" of a proposal "that guarantees the integral recovery of a sculpture that has become an icon of Lanzarote."
The last intervention of this type on the sculpture took place more than a decade ago.
About the Sculpture of Fertility
The Sculpture of Fertility is a work designed by César Manrique, with the collaboration of Jesús Soto and his entire team, which rises in the geographic center of the island since the late sixties of the last century.
Made with water tanks and other elements of disused ships, the skill in placing the cubic elements manages to symbolize a person on a pack animal in what constitutes the great tribute of the Lanzarote artist to the men and women of the island's countryside.
