The 'Abuelos Conejeros' wooden Canarian ball tournament returns to Lanzarote with more than 130 teams

Specifically, there will be 136 registered teams, 68 male and 68 female, distributed in the seven municipalities of the island

The Island Sports Service presented, on Wednesday morning, the XXIII edition of the Canarian Wooden Ball Tournament “Abuelos Conejeros”, which will be held from November 20 in the town of Costa Teguise

The Vice President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jacobo Medina, and the Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón, accompanied by the councilors for the Elderly of the seven town halls, explained this new edition. 

“For months we will see how the elderly from the seven municipalities will meet to practice one of the native sports of our archipelago”, said the vice president, who congratulated the team of the Island Sports Service “for keeping this important tournament alive”. 

The Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón, explained in his speech that this year “the number of teams and participants has increased in both male and female categories”. 

Specifically, there will be 136 registered teams, 68 male and 68 female, distributed in the seven municipalities of the island. Tías will have 6 female and 7 male teams; San Bartolomé with 11 female and 9 male; Yaiza with 7 female and 4 male; Arrecife with 9 female and 15 male; Haría with 10 female and 9 male; Tinajo with 8 female and 9 male; and finally Teguise with 17 female and 15 male. 

The “Abuelos Conejeros” Tournament will begin on November 20 in the area enabled next to the Hotel Los Zocos, in Costa Teguise. During the following Wednesdays, until May 24, different games will be held between 4:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. 

The Island Sports Service thanks the Elderly areas of the seven town halls of the island for their collaboration in preparing the different teams that make up the tournament.
