The Cabildo of Lanzarote celebrated this Friday the inauguration of the 34th edition of the Lanzarote Crafts Fair, in an act that welcomed the Mancha Blanca event to the more than 100 participating artisans and the public of the Island.
The opening ceremony, presented by Francisco José Navarro, took place in the Mancha Blanca Fairgrounds and was attended by the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort; the island's vice president, Jacobo Medina; the Councilor for Crafts, Aroa Revelo; the Councilor for Culture, Jesús Machín Tavío; the executive director of the Crafts Foundation of Chile, Leslye Palacios Novoa, and the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, in addition to the Councilor for Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, Migdalia Machín, among other public representatives.
With the master of spinning Santiago Ramírez as the backdrop for the inauguration of the fair, Oswaldo Betancort welcomed the dozens of people present and thanked the institutional support and cooperation for the organization of the most important event in Lanzarote for the artisan guild. The president stressed to those gathered the importance of the fair to give visibility to craft professionals and enhance their contribution to the protection and development of the historical heritage of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands.
Likewise, the president took the opportunity to invite the entire population to attend a unique exhibition that has 100 stands with representatives from all over the Canary Islands and other parts of the world, such as the country of Chile and its Crafts Foundation.
For her part, the Councilor for Crafts, Aroa Revelo, thanked during her speech all the people who participated in the organization of the Fair and reminded citizens of the various activities that the event has, from workshops, musical performances, live crafts, traditional gastronomy and games for the little ones, to exhibitions, family activities, the presence of the Crafts Foundation of Chile and folk festivals until Friday, September 15.
As Councilor for Culture, Jesús Machín Tavío, valued that "for this area there is nothing more necessary than the creation of spaces where traditions and art come together and where all generations know the beauty that Lanzarote has treasured for centuries." On the other hand, the councilor invited the residents to enjoy the Nanino Díaz Cutillas Festival during the day this Friday, which will have an extensive and varied representation of the folklore of the seven islands.
Representing the Government of the Canary Islands, the Councilor for Culture, Migdalia Machín, highlighted "the work and value of each piece exhibited at this fair, as faithful testimony to the ingenuity and skill of our artisans." "All of them have dedicated their lives to preserving and enriching our traditions in these times of rapid modernization, in which it is essential to remember and value our roots."
Finally, the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, expressed his gratitude to the Cabildo and the entities and people who have collaborated in the organization of the Fair and invited the population to visit it during the most special dates of the year in the municipality.
