Tenique Cultural has closed the film registration period for the 16th edition of the Lanzarote Film Showcase with 247 works submitted. Of the total, 215 are vying to be part of the Official Section and 32 have registered for Crossroads: Filmmakers from the Canary Islands. The call now moves on to the viewing and selection process for the program, which can be seen between November 19 and 29, 2026.
The two sessions bring together complementary areas of the project organized by Tenique Cultural. The Official Section accounts for most of the registrations and opens the program to contemporary cinema of international origin. Crossroads, for its part, reserves a specific space for short films made by filmmakers linked to the Canary Islands.
The volume of works received confirms the relevance of the project within a wide range of proposals from which to configure the competitive sections. The 247 registrations also reflect the dual scale on which the Showcase operates: the international circulation of contemporary cinema and attention to audiovisual creation developed in the archipelago.
The 215 films registered in the Official Section must now undergo the pre-selection evaluation process. According to the guidelines, feature films over 40 minutes long produced from January 1, 2025, are eligible. The final program will consist of between six and eight titles, which will compete for a Best Film Award of 6,500 euros.
Crossroads: Filmmakers from the Canary Islands has received 32 short films. The section aims to offer visibility to film production linked to the islands within the general program of the Lanzarote Film Showcase. Between five and seven titles will be selected from the submitted works, competing for a prize of 1,200 euros.
Directed by Javier Fuentes Feo and organized by the Tenique Cultural association, the project articulates different sections and activities around a theme, still unknown, linked to the territory of the island of Lanzarote, using contemporary cinematic creation as a tool.
The Lanzarote Film Festival has the collaboration of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism, the Society for the External Promotion of Lanzarote through its product brand Lanzarote Film Commission and the sponsorship of the Government of the Canary Islands - Canary Islands Latitude of Life -, the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts of Spain (ICAA) of the Ministry of Culture and the Canary Institute of Cultural Development (ICDC) and its unit Canary Islands Film.
