The Teguise City Council has concluded the Diabletes mask making workshop with the slogan "Get to know the tradition and make your Diablete mask", as part of the carnivals.

An activity that is overseen by the Department of Culture in collaboration with the Los Diabletes de Teguise Cultural Association and the Virgen de Las Nieves de Teguise Federation of Folkloric, Cultural and Craft Associations. The workshop took place from February 7 to 28 and was attended by 27 young and adult students. The classes were taught by members of the Cultural Association of Los Diabletes who, with great skill, put all their knowledge at the service of the students so that they could make their own mask and be able to wear it at the next festivals and some to exhibit them in their own homes. The 27 masks are on display in the Teguise House of Culture and can be visited in the morning and afternoon.

Historical data

The goat skins with which the Diabletes de Teguise were initially covered became suits of canvas painted with diamonds. The mask is no longer a male goat, but a bull with its horns and tongue. Even so, they retain the root, not only in their accessories (cowbells, bells, saddlebags...), but also in the cathartic spirit that involves scaring, transgressing, making children and adults run through the cobbled corners of the Historic Site of Teguise. They symbolize the primeval, festive and essential sense of the ancient Carnival.
