The town of Tahíche already has its Romera Mayor for the Fiestas de Santiago Apóstol y Santa Ana 2026. The young woman Naiala Cabrera Delgado was proclaimed Romera Mayor last Saturday night, July 11, during an emotional gala held at the Santiago el Mayor Sociocultural Center, in an event that brought together numerous residents to highlight the traditions, folklore, and identity of the town.

The jury also awarded the title of First Lady of Honor to Georgia Elizabeth Hammond, while Valentina Umpiérrez Reguera was named Second Lady of Honor. The seven candidates participated representing the different neighborhoods and areas of Tahiche, demonstrating their commitment to the customs and cultural heritage of the town.

The event began with an emotional opening inspired by the traditions of Tahíche, in which several women performed weaving and sewing tasks, accompanied by a dance couple that evoked the atmosphere of the old town festivals. The gala was hosted by Miriam Hernández, a resident of Teguise, who was in charge of guiding the event. After this start, the candidates made their first parade wearing the traditional 18th-century peasant attire of Lanzarote.

The evening included the farewell walk of Saray Abreut Pérez, Romera Mayor of the 2025 festivals. Subsequently, the candidates made a second appearance wearing the traditional 19th-century Sunday dress of Lanzarote. The traditional attire of the seven candidates was loaned, for another year, by Yeray Martín Artesanía y Confección, contributing to enhancing the value of traditional Canarian clothing in one of the most representative events of the festivals.

The musical segment featured the Agrupación Folclórica y Cultural Altaja, which performed a repertoire of folías, isas, sorondongos, malagueñas, and seguidillas, accompanying the different moments of the gala and enhancing the traditional character of the event. The election of the Romera Mayor was carried out by the jury composed of representatives from different folklore and cultural groups of Lanzarote, responsible for evaluating the candidates during the two parades held throughout the night.

The most anticipated moment arrived with the reading of the jury's minutes and the proclamation of Naiala Cabrera Delgado as Romera Mayor of Tahiche 2026. The sash was presented to her by the Councilor for Culture and Festivals of the Teguise City Council, Andoni Machín, while the staff was handed over by Saray Abreut Pérez, symbolizing the handover of one of the most representative traditions of the patron saint festivals. Along with Georgia Elizabeth Hammond and Valentina Umpiérrez Reguera, she will represent the town of Tahiche in the Romería in honor of Santiago Apóstol, which will be held next Saturday, July 18, one of the most anticipated events of the festive program.

The organization thanks the involvement of the candidates and their families, the jury, Yeray Martín for the loan of the traditional attire, as well as all the people and companies that made possible a gala organized within the program of the Fiestas de Santiago Apóstol y Santa Ana de Tahiche 2026, which once again highlighted the traditions, folklore, and identity of the town.

The festivities will continue over the coming weeks with a broad program of cultural, sports, traditional, and religious activities aimed at residents and visitors. The next major event will be the Romería y Ofrenda, which will be held on Saturday, July 18, starting at 6:30 p.m. from the hermitage of Tahiche.
