The Siembra project. Cinema for young people, which Tenique Cultural has been organizing since 2021 in collaboration with the Island Youth Service of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, has chosen the film "Never Rarely Sometimes Always" for the third edition of the project, as it is a film that addresses "a difficult and very important issue, both in personal and social terms," since it deals with the abortion of a young girl after an accidental pregnancy.
It will be screened (free of charge) this Thursday, March 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the Multicines Atlántida in Arrecife, with the presence of guests such as Carlos Álamo and Vanessa Rodríguez, from the Tribarte Cultural and Social Association and the Intercultural Community Process in San Bartolomé, and Víctor Romero Domínguez, primary care midwife of the Canarian Health Service.
"The film offers a broad and rigorous view, bringing us closer to issues related to women's sexual and reproductive health, as well as structural problems that still determine the lives of many today," say the organizers.
"Never Rarely Sometimes Always" is the story of Autumn, a teenager who works as a cashier in a rural Pennsylvania supermarket. Faced with an unwanted pregnancy, and without the possibility of abortion in her own state, Autumn and her cousin Skylar leave for New York on a bus with some money and the address of a clinic on a piece of paper. Once there, the two girls enter a city they don't know, without a place to spend the night.
"The first objective is for the youth of Lanzarote to have access to quality cinema and to be able to reflect on issues that directly affect them"
As the president of the Tenique Cultural Association, Javier Fuentes Feo, has said, the first objective of Siembra is "for the youth of Lanzarote to have access to entertaining and quality cinema, with which they can reflect on relevant issues or problems that directly affect people of their age."
After each screening, "there will be a debate between the public and those presenting the corresponding film, who are usually groups, associations or people whose training can offer an interesting perspective on the topics covered," the association anticipates.
