The first edition of the intensive workshop Fundamentals of Screenwriting, held from July 14 to 18 in Lanzarote, has ended with a more than positive balance both by the students and the teaching team. The initiative, promoted by Tenique Cultural in collaboration with ESCAC (Escuela Superior de Cine y Audiovisuales de Cataluña), has aroused enormous interest on the island, with full capacity and a long waiting list.
Taught by the renowned Cuban filmmaker Alan González Hernández, current director of the Screenwriting Chair of the prestigious International School of Film and Television of San Antonio de los Baños (EICTV, Cuba), the course has offered its participants an intensive training of 42 hours in techniques, structures and fundamentals of film writing.
“I have been pleasantly surprised by the level of commitment and talent in Lanzarote. It has been a pleasure to share this space with such a curious, generous and idea-filled group. There is a lot of fertile seed here,” said Alan González himself during the closing of the course.
For the students, this has been an unprecedented training opportunity on the island. “Being able to access this level of training, with an international professor and without having to leave Lanzarote, has been a gift. Thanks to Tenique and the OFF ESCAC program for making it possible,” commented one of the participants.
For his part, Javier Fuentes Feo, head of Tenique Cultural, has pointed out “the enormous commitment that the association he chairs has in bringing professional audiovisual training to the island of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands. In the coming months we will launch other projects of similar importance.”
In addition to its academic content, the course has fostered the creation of networks between people interested in audiovisual, generating a space for shared learning, reflection and creative collaboration.
This workshop is part of the OFF ESCAC program, funded by the Ministry of Culture, the ICAA and the European Next Generation funds, and aims to decentralize access to audiovisual training of excellence, bringing it to territories with less educational offer in this area.
Thanks to the agreement signed between Tenique Cultural and ESCAC, this is only the first of a series of courses that will be developed soon in Lanzarote. The collaboration between both entities seeks to open new doors for the professionalization and promotion of local audiovisual talent, so it is recommended to follow both the Tenique Cultural website and the official channels of the OFF ESCAC program to be aware of future calls and training opportunities.
