The street spoke, on the road, where twelve music and dance groups, sixteen floats and hundreds of masked people gave their art and ingenuity for the enjoyment of the public, although it also spoke on the sidewalks, where neighbors and tourists settled along the route of the Playa Blanca carnival parade to respond with joy and generosity to the show that the tourist town in the south of Lanzarote experienced this Saturday. Striking colors, flowers and makeup winked at the Playa Blanca Carnival inspired this year by 'Beautiful and beloved Mexico'. And just as dozens of beautiful catrinas paraded, there were also charros, Mexican mariachis and other allegorical manifestations of the popular culture of the Latin American country, yes, under the watchful eye of a belligerent neighbor with Mexico, Donald Trump, who was seen wandering around the parade next to Putin, and having to endure both the famous ¡Viva Mexico, cabrones!
The group of elders from Yaiza, always very active and cheerful, wore a float with Mexican dyes, like their queen and king, Rita Lombardy and Javier Cáceres, and if they could not go disguised as a Mexican, hundreds of masked people managed with factory costumes and wonderful designs of their own harvest pulling recyclable material and forgotten clothes and accessories. Having fun was what mattered.
Changes are usually viewed with uncertainty. The Yaiza City Council proposed this year the change of route of the parade and the bet went well. The beginning of the parade from the vicinity of the Marcastell urbanization caused residents of Costa Papagayo and tourists staying in hotel complexes and villas in the area to enjoy the show at will posted on both sides of the Avenida Salida a Femés without having to concentrate everyone in the center of the town.
“The change of route left very good feelings among our people and the participating groups and masked people who gave an approval, of course, with room for improvement, so for next year we are going to refine details collecting suggestions”, notes the Councilor for Celebrations, Daniel Medina.
The groups from the municipality of Yaiza, the Timanfeiros and Yaiseros comparsas and the Ritmos del Sur batucada, and the different invited groups from Lanzarote gave everything and more to enrich the show. Thousands of snapshots and videos occupied memory and invaded social networks in minutes.
The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, thanks the participation of groups, floats, masked people and the public: “the Playa Blanca parade was an enormous and beautiful expression of collective joy and ingenuity, but also a great example of coexistence and enjoyment that unites sister towns in a multicultural town like Playa Blanca”.
Faithful to his festive spirit, one of the most representative characters of the Lanzarote carnival gatherings was in Playa Blanca one more year. If we say Juan Medina it is very likely that we do not know who we are talking about, but surely we do identify the Lanzarote Charlot. At 84 years of age, Medina is still happy wherever there is a Carnival and Playa Blanca values his figure of 40 years playing Chaplin.
Behind a great show there is an organizing team. The Yaiza City Council publicly congratulates the Celebrations staff and the workers of all areas of the Administration committed to assembly and security.
The municipal government also highlights the performance of the security and emergency forces, the Yaiza Local Police, under the command of its chief officer Vladimir Guadalupe, the Yaiza Civil Protection volunteers and all the bodies present at the Playa Blanca parade, where the Institution set up a campaign hospital as part of the health equipment of the prevention services.
