The Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Festivities of the Arrecife City Council, Echedey Eugenio, presented this Thursday at a press conference the program of activities for the expected San Juan festivities in the capital of the island.
In an event that "promises to be unforgettable", Arrecife residents and visitors will meet at Reducto beach next Sunday, June 23 to enjoy a day full of activities for all ages, gastronomy and music, which will culminate with the traditional popular barbecue of pineapples and sardines, and the great burning of the bonfire.
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, invites citizens to enjoy the celebration of San Juan Night, and remarks that “this year where we commemorate the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Arrecife, this San Juan celebration will be more special”
For the first mayor, “the opening of the new pedestrian promenade next to El Reducto this weekend, which is expressly timed to coincide, will mean that many more families celebrate San Juan in the capital, in an environment that from now on projects the new urban image that we are building to relaunch Arrecife”.
“San Juan means, since ancient times, leaving the past behind and betting on the new. This is our city, we are rejuvenating it” highlights Yonathan de León.
For his part, the Deputy Mayor, Echedey Eugenio, stated during the presentation of the program that “this is a special day in which we intend to have Arrecife full of people throughout the day, promoting not only leisure and fun, but generating economic movement throughout the capital, which will result in works, improvements and all kinds of actions for the well-being of citizens”.
The festival, which will be divided into three spaces along the Avenue and Reducto beach, will begin at eleven in the morning and will extend until midnight, offering attendees a varied musical program. Among the featured artists is Omega El Fuerte, a well-known urban merengue singer, whose energy and rhythm promise to liven up the evening.
The day will also feature performances by Grupo Bomba, Grupo Muyayo Rif, the Orquesta Los Cantantes de Billos, a tribute to Joaquín Sabina, the Orquesta Banda Nueva and DJ Maxi Ferrer, who will be in charge of maintaining the festive atmosphere throughout the day.
The program includes a wide variety of children's and youth activities from eleven in the morning to eleven at night, a toy library, inflatables, water games, traditional games and sports and entertainment activities for all ages.
Attendees can also enjoy a gastronomic fair throughout the day on the new Reducto pedestrian promenade, where there will be 14 restaurant stalls belonging to establishments in the capital.
The culmination of the night will undoubtedly be the burning of the bonfire at nine o'clock, followed by a spectacular fireworks show at midnight.
Echedey Eugenio has underlined the importance of recovering this popular festival and has highlighted that “San Juan is an emblematic festival and we wanted to make sure that this year was especially memorable. We have prepared a program that combines the best of our music and traditions so that everyone, from the youngest to the oldest, can enjoy this unique experience on Reducto beach”.
Thus, the Deputy Mayor invites both residents and visitors “to join us in this celebration, burn everything bad in the bonfire and enjoy a magical night full of music and tradition”.
