Marta Orozco, an artist from Madrid who has lived in Lanzarote for more than 40 years, is in love with the island. That is why in her workshop in Haría she transfers the landscapes of Lanzarote to paper with her innate talent, which she began to forge in her childhood in an self-taught way, since it was the bubble where she isolated herself from the rest of the world.
Her journey through art not only involves painting and watercolors, but also the craft of goldsmith, specifically the work of silver. "I learned the techniques in Brazil and have dedicated 35 years of my life to goldsmithing, but also combining it with some painting", she says.
For two years she has been exclusively dedicated to watercolor painting due to the arthritis she suffers that does not allow her to work with silver, since it requires a lot of strength. Being focused on only this branch of art has allowed her to explore other materials such as liquid watercolors or acrylic.
Already in the workshop she has paintings with acrylic and also with a technique called alcohol ink. "They are more abstract drawings with drops of alcohol instead of water and very intense dyes that give rise to very beautiful creations", she declares.
Currently she exhibits her works in an exhibition called Gracias, Lanzarote, in El Puerto, on Juan de Quesada street 23, Arrecife, where the public can take a tour of the volcanic and unique charm of the island by the hand of the works painted with watercolors. The exhibition will be available until October 16.
"When I started trying to write the title of the exhibition, it came from within to call it that because I feel connected to Lanzarote and the people here", she says. And the island has given her experiences, learning, moments and people with whom she is inspired.
With that inspiration she manages to create works that stand out for their colorfulness and that the public can enjoy in the exhibition. "What is in the exhibition is mostly solid watercolor with some liquid watercolor and some metallics on black paper, which I discovered a couple of years ago and I love them", she explains.
After deciding to turn painting into her way of life, Orozco works tirelessly to give visibility to her works. In the mornings, the painter goes to the craft workshops in Haría, "which lack a lot of publicity", she laments.
Those who want to buy some of her works can do so by approaching in the mornings to her workshop in Haría. There you can find a wide variety of her works that enhance, even more if possible, the uniqueness of the landscapes of Lanzarote.
