The historic Parranda Marinera de Buches, recognized for its heritage value on the island of Lanzarote and throughout the Canary Islands, expresses its deep gratitude to the Tías City Council, especially to the Department of Festivities led by Miriam Hernández Kajan and the mayor José Juan Cruz Saavedra, for their support in the mission of rescuing and preserving the heritage of this group.

Thanks to the municipal collaboration, a project has been launched that returns to Los Buches their traditional popular parades, in close proximity to the people and with a marked participatory character, however, they will not participate in the Great Carnival Parade of Puerto del Carmen.

In the words of the president of the Parranda Marinera de Buches, Juan Antonio Machado Santana: “Since we were awarded the Gold Medal of the Canary Islands 2023, we feel the moral responsibility to safeguard our customs in their most genuine form. Tías has always lived up to our requests: it was the second town to approve, unanimously, our declaration as a Gold Medal and now it supports us in spades, complying with all the good practices in our heritage recovery project. From our entity, we can only show a deep gratitude."

With the aim of having the Parranda Marinera de Buches cataloged as Intangible Cultural Heritage, work has been carried out from the Argana Baja Headquarters following the criteria of the 2003 UNESCO Convention, which invites the communities that carry it to present proposals, produce events and ensure adequate financing of their activities. The collaboration of the Tías Town Hall, through artistic contracting following all good practices, ensures the continuity of this essential tradition in Lanzarote's culture.

The event will take place on Friday, March 7, starting at 5:30 p.m., starting at Playa Chica and continuing along the Paseo de la Barrilla to then enter Calle Bajamar and continue along Avenida Parranda Marinera de Buches Varadero, passing next to the Parque Infantil and ending at Plaza El Varadero. This parade, with its festive and popular atmosphere, invites neighbors, visitors and lovers of traditional culture to join the celebration.

Beyond institutional support, the involvement of Los Buches in educational projects and the transmission of maritime culture stands out. From the Education Department of the entity, a didactic mediation project has been promoted with the IES Tías, encouraging students to make their own buche costumes and actively participate in this parade in La Tiñosa. In this way, generational change is guaranteed and the link between youth and their roots is reinforced.

The Parranda Marinera de Buches encourages all the residents of Tías and all of Lanzarote, as well as visitors and travelers, to come dressed “in the old way”: with masks, covered or in sheets, to experience this historical and carnival experience of deep roots firsthand. This is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a tradition that, in addition to being a cultural pillar, is projected as a first-rate tourist attraction, reinforcing Lanzarote's prominence in the festive and heritage scene of the Canary Islands.

For more information or inquiries, the interested community is invited to contact the Parranda Marinera de Buches through its official channels or to contact the Tías City Council.
