The Las Faltonas choir was born in 2020 with the aim of making people laugh but also to make a social critique of issues that affect the population. In the upcoming Lanzarote carnivals, the choir will return to the stage after only doing so in 2023 and not being able to do so this year due to a lack of members.

The 34 women who make up Las Faltonas are already facing rehearsals in Arrecife to be able to prepare in the best way for the Arrecife Carnival choir contest 2025. "We are rehearsing three times a week and the rehearsals last two hours at most, they are quite enjoyable, really," says Wafa Louza, president of the choir.

The contestants' objective is to make the Lanzarote public enjoy themselves. "We hope to enjoy ourselves, for some members it will be the first time they have set foot on a stage and they are very excited and eager, since last year we could not participate because we did not reach the minimum number of contestants and we had to back down," says the president.

"We want Arrecife and the spectators to have a good time, to have fun and to have a laugh, and for that, we are going to give it our all," she continues.

"We are going to defend our rights"

The main focus of the songs of Las Faltonas will be vindication and they promise to give a lot of trouble in this aspect. "We are going to dot the i's and we are going to defend our rights but with a little humor, we are not going to be very bad," she reveals with laughter.

Regarding the composition of the lyrics, Louza explains that "in other choirs the choir itself composes the lyrics, but we do not have a team of lyricists, we commission the lyrics to an external lyricist".

"In our songs we are going to address current issues that unfortunately never 'go out of style' such as gender violence or immigration, but because we don't want to be too repetitive, but we do want to say it because it is never too much, unfortunately," she says.

As in all choirs, the costumes are a very important part of the performance. "We have already ordered the costumes, which will have a great variety of colors, and they have already measured us, but we have not yet shown them to our girls because we will do a presentation only for the members and family members," she points out.

The enthusiasm that Las Faltonas feel for fighting in the choir contest is remarkable. "We are very excited that we can set foot on the stage again because it has cost us a lot of work, but we have never given up," concludes the president.
