Lanzarote natives Ale and Rubén Acosta, nominated for the Canary Islands Music Awards

The awards ceremony will take place on December 3rd at the Teatro Real in La Laguna, where Quevedo, Cruz Cafuné, and Valeria Castro are also nominated

The jury of the seventh edition of the Canary Islands Music Awards has announced the names of the 43 nominees for this new edition, selected from among 418 musical proposals received in the different categories proposed by the aforementioned call. Among them, Ale and Rubén Acosta have been nominated for El porvenir, which competes to win the best pop album and the best design, where Adrián M. Ferrer has also been nominated.

The jury, composed of 81 members—including artists, journalists, producers, technicians, and cultural programmers—has carried out a meticulous task to recognize the most outstanding artists of Canarian music during the year 2024. The Canarian Music Awards, which will be presented on December 3 at the Teatro Leal in La Laguna, are organized by the Asociación Premios Canarios de la Música and Radio Canaria, with the collaboration of the Government of the Canary Islands, the San Cristóbal de La Laguna City Council, and the Teatro Leal, with sponsorship from Munchitos, Mahou, Ballantine's, and St Petroni.

The awards include the following 15 categories: Song of the Year, Best Pop Album, Best Jazz Album, Best Urban Music Album, Best Roots Music Album, Best Rock Album, Best Recording Studio, Best Design, Best Music Video, Best New Artist, Best Canary Islands Musical Programming, Best Sound Technician, Best Promotional Work, Best Work in Classical Music, as well as the prestigious Honorary Award.

 

 

Valeria Castro, Quevedo, and Cruz Cafuné, among the nominees

La chica de la puerta by Said Muti and Tarque, El borde del mundo, by Valeria Castro and Extraterrestres del amor by Xerach, have been the songs nominated for Song of the Year. As for Best Pop Album, the nominees are Ale Acosta for El porvenir, Fajardo for Trecho and Pedro Guerra for volume 2 of Parceiros.

For Best Jazz Album, the jury has selected the works ‘Maires’ by Alexis Alonso and Jorge Pardo, ‘Collabs’ by Carlos Meneses, and ‘Maravijazz’ by JC. Machado, JM. Méndez, and Augusto Báez.

In the category of Best Urban Music Album, Cruz Cafuné for blu€s (d€lux€), Quevedo for Buenas noches, and Resonance for Valediction will compete for the award.

In the category of Best Root Music Album are the albums Abora Project by Abora Project, Hacia la vida by Julia Rodríguez, and Mestizo by Tabaiba. On the other hand, Baldosa for ‘Queriendo igual’, Naife for ‘Untitled’ and Said Muti for ‘Criminales del sueño’, are vying to win the category of Best Rock Album.

Likewise, the jury of the seventh edition of the Canary Islands Music Awards has nominated Julia Rodríguez, Naife, and Nia in the category of Breakthrough Artist, while the Best Work in Classical Music will be decided between Laura Vega, the Maestro Valle University Orchestra, and the Philharmonic Society of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Gromer Records, Jesiisma and Superstereo Recording Studio are listed as Best Recording Studio, just as Alberto ‘Naranja’ Méndez, Hilario Benítez and Juan Jesús Guedes (Ñoki) are the candidates to win the award for Best Sound Technician. The award that recognizes the contribution of the media to the Best Dissemination Work will be contested by the publisher Los ochenta pasan factura, the podcast broadcast on YouTube, Musicafé Podscast, and the cultural content program Somos 8, which is broadcast by Televisión Española in the Canary Islands.

The jury has selected in the category of Best Design the creators Adrián M. Ferrer and Rubén Acosta for ‘El Porvenir’ by Ale Acosta, Ariana Pérez for Lo que tengo que contar by Laura Henríquez, and Carlos Arocha for ‘Criminales del sueño’, by Said Muti. For Best Music Video, Alejandro González appears for Ya no volveré a llorar por ti, by Rockaria, Maite Artajo for Marioneta de la luna ft. Fabiola by Julia Rodríguez, and Said Muti and Alejandro González for Tu puñal en la espalda, by Said Muti.

Better musical programming

Finally, the award for Best Canary Islands Musical Programming will be decided between the offerings promoted by two festivals, Herofest from El Hierro and LPA Beer & Music Festival, as well as the Teatro Leal in La Laguna.

With a total of 418 initial entries and 236 musical works pre-selected in a second phase, the 2025 Canary Islands Music Awards are consolidated as the main annual event that recognizes the talent and strength of the Archipelago's music industry. In total, 76 proposals were registered for Best Song of the Year, 19 for Best Pop Album, 14 for Rock, 11 for Jazz, 13 for Urban Music, 8 for Root Music, 31 for Breakthrough Artist, 64 for Best Music Video, 16 for Best Recording Studio, 9 for Best Musical Programming, 17 for Sound Technician, 18 for Best Dissemination Work, and 9 for Best Work in Classical Music.
