This week, among the various cultural options on the island, four auteur film proposals, a theater play, and an encounter with the humor of Aaron Gómez stand out.

Furthermore, in the music section, Arrecife celebrates the international day of Jazz this Thursday with a concert by the Uruguayan saxophonist Eddy Porchile and the following day, in Costa Teguise, the jazz celebrations continue with the quintet of the prestigious British singer Deelee Dubé  and the trio of the Lanzarote saxophonist Christopher Pérez. The annual concert cycle of the Insular Center for Musical Education also concludes with a show paying tribute to Celia Cruz

CINEMA

 

  • Better Man

A documentary that narrates the meteoric rise, the dramatic fall, and the notable resurgence of British pop superstar Robbie Williams. 

The film is a co-production of five countries: Australia, China, France, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

  •  The score of the cosmos. Buñuel Cinema

Second screening and last screening of the documentary by JuanMa V. Betancort La partitura del cosmos at El Almacén. The Teide Observatory, of the Canary Islands Institute of Astrophysics, hosts an experiment that seeks to translate the rhythms and vibrations of the cosmos into music. The documentary features the voice and gaze of electronic pioneer Suzanne Ciani.

  • Stories of the good valley

Cine Club Lanzarote presents Stories of the Good Valley, the new work by Catalan filmmaker José Luis Guerín. In the undefined landscape of the peripheral neighborhood of Vallbona, between the rural and the urban, coexist the houses built by the first migrants who arrived from all over Spain after the post-war period and the new blocks of the dormitory city of Barcelona.

  • Life outside

The Buñuel Cinema of El Almacén screens next Wednesday The Life Outside, one of the preliminary events of the Lanzarote Book Fair which will officially begin the following day and which we will cover extensively in the next program. The Life Outside is a luminous film that competed for the Palme d'Or at Cannes and is inspired by one of the most outstanding voices in 20th-century Italian literature. 

The story centers on Goliarda Sapienza's time in prison and the summer she will live after regaining her freedom alongside a young activist, discovering the art of joy while reflecting on the ways society builds its own cages.

  • The Executioner

The theater company Teatreros y comediantes represents the mythical story by Luis García Berlanga and Rafael Azcona. 

In the play, José Luis, an employee of a funeral home, plans to emigrate to Germany to become a great mechanic, but his plans are cut short when he falls in love with Carmen, the daughter of an executioner.

When: Thursday, April 30 at 8:00 PM.

HUMOR

 

  • Aarón Gómez 

The charismatic Canarian comedian Aarón Gómez returns to Lanzarote to celebrate the Day of Saint Joseph the Worker in the festivals of the Arrecife neighborhood of Titerroy.

When: Friday, May 1st at 9:00 PM.

MUSIC


 

  • Sugar. Music Week 2026. CIEM

The Music Week of the Insular Center for Musical Studies of Lanzarote concludes with the presentation of “Azúcar”, a show dedicated to the life and legacy of Celia Cruz. A tribute by the company Folk Canarias Eventos.

  • Eddy Porchile Quarteto

On the occasion of International Jazz Day, Arrecife celebrates a concert this Thursday, April 30th at 7:00 PM at the Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz, featuring the Uruguayan saxophonist Eddy Porchile.

Where: Municipal Theater of San Bartolomé.

  • Deelee Dubé Quintet. Christopher Pérez Trio

Costa Teguise also celebrates Jazz this Friday with several performances. At 8:30 PM, the London-based singer-songwriter Deelee Dubé, the first British woman to win the prestigious international jazz award Sarah Vaughan, offers a concert. She will be accompanied by the Canary Islands musicians: Kike Perdomo, José Alberto Medina, Agustín Buenafuente, and Manu Castellano.

The event will begin at 18:30 hours with the session by DJ Lunicu, who will be in charge of setting the mood in the square before the concerts. At 19:30 hours, the trio of Lanzarote saxophonist Cristopher Pérez will perform, playing with David Muñoz on double bass and Ancor Miranda on drums.
