Hundreds of pilgrims enjoyed the afternoon of this Saturday at the XXVIII Pilgrimage of San Juan Bautista. The event kicked off at seven in the afternoon and is one of the most prominent events of the festival program designed in honor of the patron saint of the municipality, which combines tradition, culture and community.
The first prize went to Héctor Reyes Feo, an award of 350 euros, and the second went to Ruben Dorta Fernández, who received 150 euros. In total, in this edition of the contest there were eight contestants who presented themselves under the allegory of the uses, customs and traditions of the Canary Islands.
Pilgrims of all ages departed at 7:00 p.m. from the Plaza de la Iglesia de Haría to celebrate the traditional walk, which toured the central streets of the municipality.
As usual, the products of a pilgrimage were shared, such as pejines, dates, biscuit donuts, pella de gofio amasado, mantecados, bizcochones and mimos, all accompanied by homemade liqueurs and Lanzarote wine.
The tune and the route were enlivened by the Parranda La Aldaba; the Altaja Folkloric Cultural Association; the Parranda El Lagar de Teseguite; the Municipal School of Folklore of Haría; the Los Labradores de Lanzarote Folkloric Cultural Association, the Güerma Musical Cultural Association; the Maxorata Folkloric Group of Fuerteventura, and the Malpaís de la Corona Folkloric Group.
In the square, the traditional offering to the Holy Patron Saint John the Baptist was held, which materialized with non-perishable products and with songs and dances.
