The 'XV Crea Joven Contest' of San Bartolomé focuses, in this 2023, on "gender violence from the collage technique", with a deadline for submission of works until November 3rd.

Isidro Pérez explains that this initiative aims to "give projection to the enormous talent existing in the Canary Islands among the young population", doing so in this edition from the "commitment of the municipality to equality and against any form of manifestation of sexist violence".

Pérez values the "trajectory of a contest that in its fourteen previous editions" has managed to "serve as a showcase for young artists from the eight islands, who with the quality of their works have managed to make this annual event a luxury meeting with important projection inside and outside the Canary Islands”.

The Councilor for Youth and Equality, Mónica de León, also highlights the "consolidation" of the contest. In this sense, she values "the role of artistic expression as a tool for the
transmission of values", and “of art as an instrument for activism whose language transcends any border, becoming a powerful weapon for communication”.

De León emphasizes the need to "raise awareness from early stages about the serious problem of gender violence", a “reality that must be made visible from all areas of society in order to continue moving firmly towards its complete eradication”.

The councilor remarks that "the choice of this theme is not accidental", because despite the progress made in terms of equality and the fight against gender violence, it is
evident that, "unfortunately, there is still a long way to go”. She highlights, on the other hand, the fact that the history of art itself “has discriminated against women, making them invisible as creators, as artists, as active subjects”.

Pérez defends in turn the role of art as “a driver of social changes and, consequently, as an expression of condemnation of all forms of violence against women”. He values the
"importance of a contest" that, he maintains, “is already a regional meeting point for young talent in the Canary Islands and that in all these years has served as a showcase for the creativity, artistic maturity and critical spirit of the archipelago's youth”.

The delivery of works and attached documentation (work form and ID) must be done at the Youth Office of San Bartolomé, Casa Cerdeña. All people born or registered in the Canary Islands between the ages of 16 and 35 years old can participate. The winning work will receive 1000 euros, 500 euros the second and the third 300 euros.
