The Nautilus Lanzarote residency, which this year will host a total of 15 artists, has for the first time invited a curator and artistic advisor as a resident, Bruno Leitão, a Portuguese based in Madrid.
Bruno's stay, whose work largely revolves around the creation of intercultural dialogues and the promotion of emerging artists on the global scene, has focused primarily on acquiring an updated vision of the contemporary art scene in Lanzarote, and in a broader sense, in all the Canary Islands, through studio visits and portfolio viewings that "have allowed him to understand the processes, techniques and visions of the selected artists and, at the same time, to carry out personalized tutorials, designed to delve into specific aspects of the artists' work and foster productive discussions that help them in their professional development."
In this way, throughout this month, he has had the opportunity to meet with artists of diverse generations and backgrounds, such as Acaymo S. Cuesta, Luna Bengoechea, Daniel Jordán, Teresa Correa, Daniel L. Fleitas, Rigoberto Camacho, Moneiba Lemes, Nicolás Laiz Placeres, Víctor G. Moreno and Ildefonso Aguilar. Also, with the curator Dalia de la Rosa.
Thanks to these meetings, the aim is not only to promote the individual development of each artist, but also to broaden horizons, opening the door to future collaborations and placing Lanzarote in a more expansive conversation within contemporary art.
The call for Nautilus Lanzarote residencies for 2025 is still open and all artists who wish to submit their application can do so until September 30, 2024 by entering the web.
