Cultura Arrecife successfully developed the stage proposal ‘Retales de tiempo’ this Saturday with a large audience, an initiative created by the company Actúa Teatro, under the direction of Germán Barrios, in order to commemorate the traditional Noche de Finaos on the occasion of the celebration of All Saints' Day.

The activity, which took place on November 1, offered two showings of a theatrical tour through the city center. The meeting point was the Music Kiosk in the José Ramírez Cerdá Park, from where the tour departed towards the Charco de San Ginés, in the surroundings of the Church, to culminate the evening in La Recova Municipal with a toast of wine and chestnuts, evoking the ancient Canarian celebrations.

In this regard, Abigail González emphasizes that "with this initiative, created and represented by Actúa Teatro, from the City Council we wanted, for another year, to raise awareness about the importance of keeping our traditions alive as a way to preserve our cultural heritage and therefore the memory and identity of the Canarian people"

Customs of Yore

During the performance, various spaces in the city center were transformed into a symbolic cemetery, honoring old customs. From the early hours of the day, the public was able to contemplate commemorative structures that represented the tombs of different historical and legendary figures, whose stories came to life at nightfall.

Among the main characters of this scenic journey were Catalina Lercaro, Cabeza de Perro, and Clavijo Fajardo, played by a cast consisting of Daniel Sanginés, Maday Méndez, Joche Rubio, Rita Negrín, Timo Schorken, and Mike Mosegue (music).

Abigail González expressed her satisfaction with the great reception of the initiative and emphasized that "the Noche de Finados is one of the most deeply rooted celebrations in the Archipelago in which we remember those who preceded us, and with proposals such as 'Retales de Tiempo' we want to bring these customs closer to the new generations and highlight the richness of the popular Canarian culture."

The councilwoman also highlighted the participatory nature of the show: "Actúa Teatro has masterfully ensured that the public is not a mere spectator, but part of the story; with their proposal we have walked together among the memories of our deceased, listened to their voices, and recognized our own roots in them."
