The La Oliva Folklore Group celebrated the XX Esteban Ramírez Folklore Festival last Saturday, which, on this occasion, was dedicated to the Coros y Danzas Arrecife Folklore Group on the occasion of its 60th anniversary. The event took place at the Raíz Cultural Association of the Majorero municipality, on a very important date also for the family of the La Oliva Folklore Group, which on this same day was celebrating 49 years since its foundation.
The event scheduled for 9:00 p.m. began with the performance of the organizers, who chose for such a special day the most representative of the traditional folklore of Fuerteventura such as 'Fúlgida Luna' and 'Sorondongo Majorero', in addition to performing an isa and a malagueña.
Secondly, the members of the Los Poliguanches folklore group performed, arriving from Gran Canaria and created in 1975 by some members of the Municipal Police force of Las Palmas. Los Poliguanches wore the typical clothing designed in 1934 by the Canarian painter Néstor Martín Fernández de la Torre and chose for their performance compositions 'Santo Domingo, el 'Duque de Cabrera', folías de Gran Canarias and seguidillas.
In third place, the members of the Coros y Danzas Arrecife Group performed, who, very excited and grateful for the gift that the friends of the La Oliva Folklore Group had prepared for them with such affection, gave their all with their songs and dances. They performed malagueñas in honor of César Manrique and seguidillas, among other compositions.
Gifts and a celebration cake
At the end of their performance, Belinda Ramírez, representing the La Oliva Folklore Group, presented them with a sculpture of a typical couple from the island and a painting with an inscription, which included a photo of one of the symbolic buildings of La Oliva, such as the Casa de Los Coroneles.
Afterwards, an exchange of gifts took place between the participating groups as a reminder of a day marked by traditions, where music and dances were the protagonists. The family of the La Oliva Folklore Group also surprised the members of Coros y Danzas Arrecife with a large cake for their 60th anniversary. The public that filled the capacity of the Raíz del Pueblo auditorium rewarded each of the participating groups with their applause.
The La Oliva Folklore Group will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year with an extensive program of events, which will include the most outstanding moments experienced since its beginnings in the 1960s, difficult times that they faced and with enthusiasm and hard work being able to resist with the commitment to keep alive the culture and tradition of the island of Fuerteventura.
