César Manrique will be honored in Berlin next Monday, June 24th, on the occasion of the centenary of his birth, in an event jointly organized by the law firm specializing in Sustainable Energy Law Becker Büttner Held (BBH) and the César Manrique Foundation (FCM).

The event in honor of César Manrique will be inaugurated by Rosa Velázquez Álvarez, Counselor for Science and Culture of the Spanish Embassy in Berlin, and then Professor Christian Held, from BBH, will take the floor to welcome the attendees. Subsequently, there will be a meeting with two presentations on sustainability, a concert presenting the album that Toñín Corujo has made in homage to the artist from Lanzarote, and a cocktail based on enogastronomic products from Lanzarote.

The first part of the meeting will consist of a conference on César Manrique's sustainable intervention model in Lanzarote from the perspectives of tourism, territory, and landscape. The talk will be given by Francisco Galante Gómez, Professor of Art History at the Universities of La Laguna and KU-Leuven (Leuven) in Belgium, Director of the César Manrique Cultural Chair, and member of the Advisory Council of the César Manrique Foundation.

In the second part of the meeting, which will take place under the title 'Revolution of clean and sustainable energy: An option for Spain?', the manager of Stadtwerke Brandenburg an der Havel GmbH & Co. KG, Uwe Müller, will talk about the term 'Energiewende', which would correspond to the concept of "energy transition".

According to the FCM, the law firm BBH brought the most important litigation in the history of German sustainability before the Constitutional Court in 1992 against four large multinationals, and managed to establish the right of German communities and municipalities to decide and administer their own Energy Consortium, with this right anchored in the German Constitution. From the so-called 'Stromstreit' (energy dispute) trial, the term 'Energiewende' (energy transition) was coined, and today there are 1,200 communities or municipalities in Germany that manage their own energy.
