The Agustín de la Hoz House of Culture in Arrecife hosts the exhibition curated by timple player Benito Cabrera "Wandering Sounds", inaugurated on Wednesday morning where all those who wish can visit it in the morning and afternoon until June 13.
'Wandering Sounds' is part of the Fair of Traditions of Lanzarote and La Graciosa 'Atlantic Roots', Visitors will be able to learn about a wide variety of instruments from different countries of the world belonging to private collections of Benito Cabrera himself and friends who love these instruments such as, Félix Morales, Sergio García, Pablo Díaz and Jeremías Martín. An exhibition that will take you on a journey through different countries discovering instruments such as: The pocket Timple, the Contra, the Chácaras from El Hierro, the Plunger Flute, the Water Whistle, the Moroccan Bendir, the Egyptian Mazhar, the Portuguese Square Tambourine, the Bucio etc.
Each instrument is born from a specific community: from its available materials, from its climate, from its trades, from its history, and from its celebrations. The wood that is carved, the skin that is stretched, the reed that is pierced, or the string that vibrates speak of a territory and of those who inhabit it. In that sense, instruments are living archives; they hold the memory of a way of feeling, celebrating, praying, resisting.
In the Canary Islands, traditional music has historically been a meeting place. Parrandas, taifa dances, religious celebrations or family gatherings have revolved around a small set of instruments that, together, build identity. the sound of the timple, the strumming of the guitar, the ringing of the chácaras or the beat of the drum are not merely accompaniments: they are sonic marks of belonging.

Sometimes the relationship is historical and documented; other times it is parallel and casual. Different communities, in different contexts, find similar answers to express similar emotions. That is the true nature of these "Wandering Sounds," they travel, they transform, and yet they retain a recognizable core.
'Wandering Sounds', an open window to universal musical culture that all who wish can visit at the Agustín de la Hoz House of Culture in Arrecife as part of the Lanzarote and La Graciosa Atlantic Roots Fair of Traditions.
