The Arrecife City Council began the celebration of Christmas events on Saturday night. The 'Boca del Muelle', next to the historic Puente de las Bolas, welcomed hundreds of people to enjoy the show organized by the City Council to welcome Christmas, with the moment of the lighting of the new Christmas lights.
From the afternoon, many families, with children, were able to comfortably enjoy this show with the seats set up by the City Council at the beginning of Calle Real, where the gymnastic parade arrived with performances by the Municipal Band, the members of the Isla de Lanzarote Gymnastics Club, animated swans, and the escorted 'Star of Christmas'. The event was presented by Fran Vega.
Already at night, and with the entire bay of Arrecife under the light of the full moon, the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, activated the Christmas lighting focused in the first moments on the entire perimeter area of the Castillo de San Gabriel and the Puente de las Bolas, two of the great symbols of the capital's history.
The mayor, in his speech to the many attendees, highlighted the symbolism for the city of Arrecife in this Christmas celebration coinciding with the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Arrecife. Yonathan de León advocated that these holidays be lived in harmony and that all citizens and visitors can participate and enjoy the many events programmed by the City Council.
During this act of starting the Christmas celebration, the Municipal Government group was present.
Previously, from 6:30 p.m., a show was held through the Open Commercial Zone that accompanied the public to the Puente de las Bolas, where the official lighting ceremony was held with the placement of the 'A' of Arrecife, by the capital's mayor.
This year 2023, the city of Arrecife commemorates the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality, and many of the activities programmed with Christmas revolve around this important anniversary in the history of the municipality.
