This Thursday, December 19, the Department of Commerce and Tourism of the Arrecife City Council is organizing a very unique catwalk and exhibition to commemorate the city's 225 years of history: a fashion show that will combine tradition and innovation. This special event will take place this Thursday in La Plazuela, the epicenter of the Open Commercial Zone of the capital of Lanzarote, at 6:30 p.m., and will feature the participation of prominent professionals from design, crafts and creative arts.
The parade will present ten exclusive designs, five male and five female, that pay tribute to the cultural heritage of the capital of Lanzarote. Each design will be made mainly of denim, a material that symbolizes the maritime connection and the importance of work in the origins of the city.
The garments stand out for their sophistication and for the incorporation of hand-painted illustrations in black and white by the artist Iván T., which represent emblematic areas such as the old Gran Hotel, the Music Kiosk, the Charco de San Ginés, the salt flats and the figure of the widow of yesteryear, among others.
Regina Ferragut, in charge of the collection's design, has managed to merge elements of the past and the present, creating a perfect balance between the traditional and the contemporary. Each piece stands out for its attention to detail, from the textures to the accessories, providing a visual narrative of the history of Arrecife.
A prominent role is also played by the hats and headdresses of Azu Vilas, made by hand in felt, which complement the outfits and provide a distinctive character, evoking the elegance of past eras. The complete transformation of the models will be the work of Beatriz Alcober (makeup) and Esther Orta (hairstyles), who will add the final touch to this artistic representation.
The event will feature performances by Toñín Corujo, Tatiana Niz and Ayose Medina, who will provide a unique soundtrack that will enrich the evening. In addition, the special collaboration of the traditional group Los Buches will provide an authentic and representative touch of the cultural identity of Arrecife.
Mayor Yonathan de León, has remarked that "supporting island talent is part of the objectives of this catwalk, where the city becomes an open-air catwalk to publicize the creations of entrepreneurs who merge design, fashion, art and music in the same event that reflects our seafaring past".
"This parade is more than a fashion event; it is a tribute to the identity of Arrecife and its rich history. We want to invite everyone to enjoy a magical night where tradition and modernity meet in perfect harmony," said Councilor Eli Merino.
"The parade promises to be an unforgettable experience that not only celebrates creativity and art, but also the values and the port legacy linked to the culture of Arrecife," they conclude.
